UFRJ adopts the concept of university extension, defined by the Forum of Pro-Rectors of Extension of Public Institutions of Higher Education in Brazil (FORPROEX, 2010):
“University Extension, under the constitutional principle of the inseparability of teaching, research and extension, is an interdisciplinary educational, cultural, scientific and political process that promotes transformative interaction between universities and other sectors of society”.
The guidelines that should guide the formulation and implementation of University Extension actions, agreed in FORPROEX (NOGUEIRA, 2000), are the following:
Interação dialógica
Interdisciplinarity and Interprofessionality
Inseparability of teaching – research – extension
Impact on student training
Impact on social transformation
UFRJ Extension Actions can be developed as Courses, Events or Projects, coordinated by teachers and/or technicians. These Actions must be registered by their coordinator with the Dean of Extension (PR-5), through the Integrated Academic Management System (SIGA), so that they can be credited and certified.
The Extension corresponds to 10% of the mandatory course load of Undergraduate courses at UFRJ. If you are an engineering student at IPoli and want to know how to participate in an extension activity, go to o nosso Guia de Extensão.
